I read all the time, but I have to be honest, it’s been an awfully long time since anything has really blown me away.
I want a knock-your-socks-off kind of book!
I just finished Finders Keepers by Stephen King, which is the follow up to his Mr. Mercedes. I found it fairly self-indulgent, and I think he’s getting soft as he ages. He’s not quite been the same since the van. Granted, I’ll still buy everything the man writes, but I haven’t been wowed in a while.
I also recently read Bum Rap, but mostly because I needed something quick and it was $0.99 on Amazon. It was a kind of dumb law read.
I just started the Outlander series, and it seems “OK.” I’m only 6% in, but I have yet to be grabbed. I promised my mother I’d at least hold on until the main character chick goes back in time. So, I soldier on.
I like something that has an edge. TKAM made me think; it made me want to be more Atticus-like. Martian kept me on the edge of my seat, and was “smart” enough to keep me engaged. I appreciate the beauty of language when I read something like The Goldfinch or All The Light We Cannot See, but I want a blockbuster kind of book.
Do you think Outlander will be that book? Am I judging too soon?
Who’s read something great lately and is willing to share?
