We had the best day today!
We packed up the family Buick and headed to MDI for the day. I was wondering aloud last night how it would go. My demands weren’t too lofty. I just wanted everything to go right. The thing is, everything did.
We got up early and drove to Bangor for breakfast. Everyone was ravenous by the time we arrived, so they cleaned their plates. The mood was positive. We were off to a good start. After finding a parking spot at the town pier, we explored the bar path. We built a cairn. The kids gathered every crab part, barnacle-covered rock, and clamshell they could find. Some nice lady even took our picture together as a group.
Inevitably, Jake got tired of all the walking and picture taking. He held his own, and wasn’t too much of a downer. This is about as bad as he got:
The younger two strutted their stuff in Agamont Park, to the amusement of the tourists.
After we explored the shops and had some lunch, we set out into Acadia and instead of a big hike, we settled on playing in the waves at Sand Beach.
We loved the sand between our toes! There were sunbathers, kids splashing in the ocean, and a bunch of what looked to be college kids playing a frisbee game. It was definitely the official unofficial start of summer. All the fun in the sun got Jake craving some ice cream, so we headed back to town towards Ben and Bill’s Chocolate Emporium for a treat.
Our bellies full, we made our way back toward Trenton, and Pirate’s Cove mini golf. I won, which is easy to do when you keep score, and everyone had a great time there, too.
So, our day is finally over. The kids are upstairs getting ready for bed. Beth’s already crashed on the couch. I’m not too far behind. We played hard today.
