It’s been a wild week around here, but at the same time not much has happened. It’s been one soccer game after another, and a typical Maine swing in weather. Ninety on Wednesday, and I had to scrape my windshield before heading to work this morning. Which do you prefer in October?
Outsmarted By Chipmunks
Mom’s got a trio of chipmunks hanging around her house. She’s afraid they’re going to nest for the winter. They’ve been seen in the garage and under the back stairs. Naturally, they’re adorable so we can’t kill them. I picked up a few live traps at the Tractor Supply, we put in some mixed nuts, and wait. Nothing. Mom tried putting in saltines with peanut butter. Still nothing. At last inspection, there’s bait missing, the traps have triggered, but still no captives. Apparently, we’re not as smart as chipmunks. Any suggestions?
PSA – Podcasts
If podcasts are to be believed, they’re still a relatively unknown media, but they’re gaining ground. They are free, and come in a wide range of topics and hosts. If you’re not listening, you’re seriously missing out. I wanted to share a few of my favorites and ask for recommendations. I love to hear good stories, so things like The Moth and almost anything by NPR is awesome, but I just now found Snap Judgment, which I’m loving. Who loves what? Which gems should I find?
The Student Has Become The Master
Jake got a Nintendo Switch last week, and after nearly 90 minutes, has become WAY better than his father at Street Fighter 2! It’s absurd. Is it because he’s 15 and has never NOT had a controller in his hand? Is it because I can see 40 from here? I try for about a half hour every night, but I can’t beat him best of 5. I can get the occasional match here and there, but I just can’t compete. Is this what it feels like to be old?
